The Wikipedia Library/Newsletter/January-February 2021
In this issue we highlight a new partnership, #1Lib1Ref, and, as always, a roundup of news and community items related to libraries and digital knowledge.
New partnership
[edit]We have added a new partnership to the Library Card: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) is a multidisciplinary scientific journal - the official journal of the US National Academy of Sciences.
Because PNAS is part of the Library Bundle, if you meet the minimum requirements you will have immediate access to this resource without needing to apply. Go to the PNAS page and click on "Access Collection".
Nomos and De Gruyter have also been added to Library Card.
- Nomos is a scholarly publisher specializing in academic literature in a variety of subject areas mostly in law and social science. They have offered access to all of the electronic resources available through Nomos Online, which include eBooks and journals in arts, humanities, social sciences, law and general reference. Their offerings include resources mostly in German, and a few in English. Click on the Apply button on the partner page to request access.
- De Gruyter is a scholarly publisher specializing in academic literature in a variety of subject areas. Accounts can access all of the electronic resources available through De Gruyter Online, which include ebooks and journals in arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, theology/religion, medicine, mathematics, law and general reference. Their offerings include resources in English, German, and several other languages. Because De Gruyter is part of the Library Bundle, if you meet the minimum requirements you will have immediate access to this resource without needing to apply. Go to the De Gruyter page and click on "Access Collection".
1Lib1Ref
[edit]This year's 1Lib1Ref January campaign was special because of the milestone of Wikipedia: 20 years of knowledge curation and sharing. The latest 1Lib1Ref campaign as usual, ran from 15 January to 5 February 2021. The campaign took up many forms this year, from a CEE inspire campaign contest to the 1Lib1Ref Human Challenge. The main focus was to invite new communities and participants, and we achieved this through localization of the campaign within the CEE region with the leadership of Gorana Gomirac (VRMS) and Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska (WMPL).
Tentative Stats
- About 31,000 edits in nearly 30 languages
- 109% increase over last year's results
- 506 editors participated in the campaign
- Top 3 languages were all from the CEE region: specifically Serbian, Polish and Macedonian languages.
What a way to celebrate Wikipedia's 20 years of existence! The celebrations are year round so mark your calendars now for the next campaign, which starts 15 May 2021.
