Pashtun National Jirga Secures Indefinite Ceasefire In Kurram

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Kurram: The Pashtun National Jirga has brokered an indefinite ceasefire between warring tribal factions in Kurram, with a commitment to keep all trenches vacated until a final decision is reached by the Jirga.

Under the directive of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the Jirga convened to establish lasting peace in Kurram. The session, led by Kohat Division Commissioner Matisam Billah Shah, included over 100 tribal elders from both sides, along with DIG Kohat Division Sher Akbar Khan.

The grand Jirga held extensive individual and collective meetings with stakeholders, culminating in an agreement for a permanent ceasefire. Participants emphasized that disputes cannot be resolved through violence and called for time, sincerity, and mutual trust to address the decades-old conflict.

The Jirga vowed to remain engaged until lasting peace is achieved in Kurram and to carry the message of harmony back to their respective communities.

Commissioner Kohat assured that the government is committed to ensuring sustainable peace in Kurram and will take all necessary measures to enforce its writ.

The development follows a deadly ambush on a passenger convoy on November 21, which escalated tensions in the region. Since then, the unrest has claimed 133 lives, and 200 were injured, and caused severe shortages of food, fuel, and essential medicines due to road closures.
