Super Princess Peach (スーパープリンセスピーチ Sūpā Purinsesu Pīchi?, Super Princess Peach) is a platform game for the Nintendo DS starring Princess Peach. It was developed by TOSE and published by Nintendo. The game was first released in Japan in October 2005, followed by other countries early the following year. The game is Peach's second starring appearance in the Princess Peach series, the first being Princess Toadstool's Castle Run for the Nelsonic Game Watch. Super Princess Peach is considered the first game within the Princess Peach series.
In this game, the roles are reversed. Bowser gets his revenge and abducted Mario, Luigi and the Mushroom Kingdom Toads, and it's up to Peach to come to their rescue.
Plot[]
Vibe Island is a mysterious island not far from the Mushroom Kingdom, but hardly ever spoken of, as it contains great power. Bowser hears about Vibe Island and builds a summer villa there. A few of his minions discover the legendary Vibe Scepter, and Bowser plots to use it as revenge on Mario and Luigi. While Princess Peach is taking a stroll, Bowser's minions head to Peach's Castle and send a Goomba in to use the scepter to cause chaos so they can capture the brothers. The minions charge in, once the scepter is in activation, and kidnaps Mario, Luigi, and Toad, while having the other Toads go crazy with different emotions. The minions report back to Bowser, but the Goomba starts to cause chaos in the villa by waving the scepter. Everyone is either happy, angry, or sad. Back at the castle, the Princess returns from her walk with Toadsworth and a Toad (who possibly escaped) and all are shocked to see the castle. They go inside to find everyone extremely happy, raging with anger, or nonstop crying. One Toad sees the letter Bowser left for them, explaining they captured both Mario and Luigi. Princess Peach, in rage, proclaims she will rescue them, as she has been saved by them many times.
Before Peach departs, Toadsworth gives the princess an unusual talking umbrella named Perry to accompany Peach during her journey.
After Peach and Perry defeat the boss of each world, they set in a campfire as Perry dreams about his past.
Defeating Petey Piranha, Perry dreamt of an old man looking at him.
Defeating Hoo, Perry had the same dream but seeing the old man, he called him "Grandpa" who took him up to the mountains to play.
Defeating King Boo, Perry had the same dream. Grandpa told him to wake up that he will catch a cold sleeping. Two mysterious figures was facing against Grandpa, who Perry suddenly transformed into an umbrella. The Evil Magician and the Evil Minion took Perry away from his grandpa happily as they strolled away on a path.
Defeating Wiggler, Perry has the same dream as the Evil Magician and Evil Minion. Perry freed himself from their clutches and a travelling merchant found him on the ground.
Defeating Gooper Blooper, the dream progressed where a travelling merchant found Perry as a dirty umbrella, but decided that he could sell it.
After defeating Blizzaurus, the dream continued where Perry was screaming for help while he glowed. The travelling merchant placed him in his store and a "kind old man" got him for free and picked him up. Perry got his eyes as Toadsworth walked him.
After defeating Giant Kamek, the dream cleared up his whole backstory where he was a boy with unusual powers that helped him survive sleeping on a mountain. An old man who Perry calls grandpa found him sleeping on the mountain that he took care of him. They were happy until they were confronted by two mysterious figures, who found out the boy's powers that they transformed him into an umbrella and they separated Perry away from the old man. However, as they walked, Perry freed himself from their clutches. Perry tried screaming for help, but it only helped him glow. A travelling merchant found a glowing umbrella on the ground and the merchant brought him to his shop. Almost nobody noticed him until Toadsworth noticed his power and took Perry.
Peach and Perry intervened Bowser's Villa where they confronted Army Bro and Bowser. Bowser fused Army Bro with Rage and Army Bro fought the duo. Upon his defeat, Peach and Perry confronted Bowser again. Defeating him, he enlargened himself in the final showdown. Peach and Perry defeated him again as they sent him flying away from his villa including the Vibe Scepter. Perry unlocked Mario's cage and freed him. Peach, Perry, Luigi, Mario, and the rescued Toads left Vibe Island. Meanwhile, a Vibe Scepter was floating in the sky.
Gameplay[]
Main game[]
Gameplay screenshot of Peach in the first level, Ladida Plains 1-1
Super Princess Peach plays similarly to traditional platformers. There are eight worlds, each consisting of six levels and a boss battle. Each boss battle requires a short minigame to play. For example, in Shriek Mansion, Peach is descending down on Perry, and the player taps the screen to scare away Boos. If the Boos touch Peach, the player has to restart the challenge. After the player has finished the minigame, the player does not need to replay it to attempt to battle the boss again. Defeating a boss unlocks three additional levels for the next world. There are a total of 24 extra levels to unlock.
Within the levels themselves, there are a number of boxes that will give specific gameplay hints. Three Toads are hidden throughout each level, but the boss levels have one Toad contained in a bubble (except World 7's boss where Luigi is captive, and World 8's boss where Mario is). Each world has 16 Toads to rescue. Before Peach can access the final boss fight, she has to rescue every Toad first.
On the upper left-hand side of the screen, there are two bars: the heart gauge (maximum of five hearts) and the Vibe Gauge. Whenever Peach falls down a hole or gets hit by an enemy, she loses half a heart. When all hearts are gone, she must start over at the beginning of the level. Peach has infinite lives, so the player can continue as much as he/she pleases. The Vibe Gauge corresponds to the four powers she has.
With her companion Perry, Peach can use many abilities. Stomping on enemies does not defeat them; Peach must use the umbrella to hit them. The player can press to immediately sweep them aside or
to put them on top of the umbrella. Once an enemy is on top of the umbrella, the player may press
to put the enemy down,
to throw the enemy, or down on the D-pad to absorb the enemy, which refills part of the emotion meter. As the game progresses, Perry gains new abilities, which become available at the shop over time and can be bought using coins: Subrella allows Peach to travel underwater, and the player blows into the microphone to blow bubbles to defeat the undersea enemies; Slidebrella turns Perry upside down and uses his handle like a hook, and it is used in areas with a maze of high-flying wires; and the Bowlbrella puts Peach in the umbrella and allows her to navigate through surface water.
After the game is completed, the player can go through the levels again to pick up more unlockable items.
Vibes[]
Princess Peach makes use of four different vibes during her journey. Unlike the enemies, Peach can change hers at will. When the player taps on a mood, it activates a different ability, typically helping to solve puzzles or defeat enemies. However, every Vibe can only be used temporarily, as using it drains the Vibe Gauge, which can be restored by capturing blue turquoise jewels or absorbing enemies.

Joy | Represented by a yellow heart with a smiling face. Peach gets very happy and becomes enveloped in a powerful cyclone with musical notes, allowing her to fly, gust fogs and clouds, turn windmills, push down fountains, hit blocks above or next to her and blow enemies away. She can also use this power to break open flying bags that contain mostly the coins and sometimes the hearts and the vibe crystals, spin Kamek's head and slow down her falls as an easy use. It also quickens the tempo of music with higher notes. |

![]() |
Gloom | Represented by a blue heart with a depressed look. Peach will cry, making her run faster, jump farther and inflict enemies on the ground. The stream of tears that gets scattered while she is crying can also be used to water certain obstacles, such as helping a small sprout grow into a long tall plant which she can use to climb and reach higher places. This power can defeat the Nipper Plants, extinguish flames, hit all blocks at once and push chained heavy balls and inflicted enemies. It also slows down the tempo of music with lower notes a bit and a sad tone. |
![]() |
Rage | Represented by a red heart with an angry face. Peach will become enraged and catch fire, making her invincible, burn enemies and other objects, and able to cause earthquakes whenever she lands. But there are a few disadvantages: she can't run fast, and she won't be able to jump far, either. This power can scare away the Boos, fishing Lakitu ghosts and flocks of bats, push down switches, melt snowmen and icicles, light up lanterns in dark places and break open flying bags. It also slows down the tempo of music with low notes severely and an angry tone. | |

Calm | Represented by a smiling light-green heart with closed eyes. Peach will calm down, become delighted and a "bubble" will appear, surrounding her. This restores health. This bubble will break if hit by anything hazardous, thus stopping the healing process. She can still move and attack whenever she's under this power. It also changes the keys of music into higher notes. |
Game Extras[]
Minigame[]
Super Princess Peach contains three minigames, which use the Touch Screen or microphone. In Toad Jump, the player blows into a microphone to make Toad jump and avoid running into enemies or falling down. Toad Tote involves the player having to use the stylus to navigate Toad through a maze of fire. Toad Shot requires the player to tap the screen to defeat enemies with numbers on their bellies. The first seven levels for each game are purchasable at the shop, but the last three levels are hidden in the levels.
Puzzle[]
Eight puzzles are also featured. A few of the pieces are purchasable at the shop, but most of them are hidden throughout the worlds. After the pieces are found, it becomes a minigame. The player uses the touchscreen to rotate and piece together the puzzle. The game records and displays the fastest time.
Music Room[]
The Music Room features a band called the Peach Hit Five. There are two band members (Peach and Toadsworth) initially, but three more members appear when the player unlocks 30, 40 and 50 songs, respectively. Some songs are buyable at the shops, but most of them are hidden in the levels, the majority of which are inaccessible until after the game has been beaten once. This bonus also contains a crowd of Toads, Koopa Troopas and Goombas watching the show.
Bonus[]
Along Peach's journey, Perry has dreams that slowly unveil his past of being a young, lost boy being turned into an umbrella by a band of magicians struggling free and picked up by a traveling merchant who sells it to Toadsworth.

Enemies[]
Super Princess Peach features several enemies from the Super Mario series, such as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Hammer Bros. Because of the emotions all over Vibe Island, some of the enemies have emotionally-affected variants, such Sad Goombas or Mad Bullet Bills. When an enemy is defeated, it is included in the Glossary, in which most of the enemies are given their own description.
