Amazon Kindle
アマゾン「キンドル」

If Kindle's minimalist design reminds you Apple products, it's no coincidence. Amazon hired a head designer (possibly multiple designers) away from frog design, a San Francisco-based firm known for its high number of Apple alumni, Business Week reported a year ago. It also says, "The previous Kindle also had Apple alumni involved: Ammunition, the industrial design firm headed by Apple's ex-director of Industrial Design, Robert Brunner, consulted on the first version. "

Not only designers, Amazon opened its subsidiary, Lab126, right next to Apple's Cupertino campus. On top of that, Kindle is manufactured by China's Foxconn, same as Apple iPad!


アマゾンはシアトルの会社だが、キンドル開発のため 設立した小会社「Lab126」はアップルから車で3分とかからない。

立地だけではない。

初代Kindleはアップルの インダストリアルデザイン部門元ディレクター、ロバート・ブラナー（Robert Brunner）が立ち上げたAmmunition社が、コンサルを請け負った。第2世代は、アップルOBが多いサンフランシスコのFrog Design社からトップのデザイナーを採用している（複数のデザイナーを引き連れて、という噂も）。

デザインだけではない。

な んと製造もアップルiPadと同じ中国Foxxconなのだ！　まさか隣の部屋だったりしないよね！　頼むよ！！

…という風に、アマゾン は最初からアップルの無駄を排したミニマルなデザインをeブックリーダーに採り入れたいと考え、また、動いてもいる。なので、「アマゾンはアップルよりデ ザインが野暮ったいよね～」としたり顔で言う人がいたら、そうかいそうかいと黙ってニコニコ聞いてれば良いのである。
