Overview of LinuC Level 1

LinuC Level 1 certifies competency in Linux server construction, operation and management. Candidates must demonstrate technical skills covering the following Linux operations:

  • Familiarity with basic Linux operations and system administration.
  • Basic commands and system administration for construction, operation and maintenance of Linux server environments.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge about using Linux distributions.
  • Working knowledge of basic Linux commands.

LinuC Level 1 certified professionals have fulfilled all these requirements to demonstrate an understanding of basic Linux operations and competency as a system administrator engineer. This certification may be shown to customers as proof that an engineer has adequate Linux knowledge.

Linux server environment construction, operation and maintenance; infrastructure engineer; network engineer; security engineer; Linux or other embedded software development work; Sales Engineer; IT training instructor; etc.

Exam Overview
Exam Prerequisites Neither work experience nor qualifications are required for taking this exam.
Exam Fees

Each exam costs ¥16,500 (JPY/in Japan, including TAX) / $150 (USD/outside of Japan, without TAX).
Level 1 certification requires passing grades on both Exam 101 and Exam 102.

Exam Procedure

All exams are administered as computer-based tests (CBT). Most questions only require a mouse to select an answer, but there are also some questions that require keyboard input. There is no practical exam or interview portion.

Exam Time 90 minutes (※)
※ 5 minutes are included to answer a simple survey after exam completion. The total time allowed for answering exam questions is 85 minutes.
Date/Location Candidates may select their preferred date, time and location.
Certification Requirements

Level 1 certification requires passing grades on both Exam 101 and Exam 102.These exams may be completed in any order.

※ Both exams (Exam 101 and Exam 102) must be passed within a 5-year period to complete certification.

Grade/Results

Pass/fail status will be revealed immediately after exam completion.

Average Study Time Most candidates require 1-3 months of study to pass these exams.
Appropriate Skill Levels

LinuC Level 1 covers the ability of candidates to perform the following tasks.

  • Support users who work on Linux command line, and add users to large scale Linux systems.
  • Perform easy maintenance tasks (including X) such as backup and restore, shutdown and reboot.
  • Install and configure workstations, connect workstations to LAN and connect stand-alone computers to the Internet using modems.
After Passing the Exams
Certification Document Certificate should arrive 3-5 weeks after exam is completed.

Official Logo Certified individuals are authorized to include the logo and/or professional title on their business cards.
Before Taking the Exams
Exam Validity Period LinuC Level 1 certification requires passing grades on both Exam 101 and Exam 102 within a 5-year period.

Recertification policy Certification does not expire, but qualification is subject to a period of validity. To extend the period of validity, candidates must recertify within 5 years of previous certification date OR pass certification of a higher level exam within 5 years.

Retake Policy This LinuC retake policy is only applicable to candidates who failed previous exams. Re-examination for previous passing grades is not affected by this policy. If you fail your 1st exam attempt, you may take the same exam a 2nd time after a mandatory 7-day waiting period (including Saturdays and Sundays). Please check the Retake Policy before you apply.
