If you made this movie now but set almost 20 years ago and about outmoded analog technologies some would probably accuse you of being heavy-handed -- VHS tapes, VCRs, cathode ray TVs, answering machines, landlines, newspapers, VHS printers (??), one hour photo, just a wealth of devices that we invited into our homes and built our lives around. Totally assured cinematically too, I love the way the camera is used to suggest the presence of a menace even when there isn't anything there, I knew I was in good hands when that shot of the refrigerator door closing in the first scene made me jump just because I thought there was going to be something behind it.
