No matter how much you want to love a movie, sometimes it just doesn’t happen…
Ultimately, it’s a goofy story told with the utmost seriousness (aside from some odd stabs at humor that are mainly concentrated in the first half). It’s also told in a stunning array of muted browns, bright reds, deep blacks, and stark whites that will keep your eye trained on the screen even if your brain begins to wander toward the memories of similar, better films.
My main takeaway is that I’d love to see Osgood direct a script that someone else wrote.
