Wow. This movie defied my expections. I didn't expect much but was hit with something truly special.
Miles and Peter B Parker are amazing, with an engaging mentor/student relationship.
Miles' origin story is great, following a similar origin story to not only the source material of Miles Morales himself but Peter Parker as well. Miles struggles with what he wants to be, and then manages to eloquently rise above it all, realising his true potential and who he is.
Anyone can wear the mask. You can wear the mask. I didn't know that before but I do now.
Peter B Parker is very much how people might expect an older Peter Parker to be like. Tired and depressed after dealing with the burden of being Spider-Man for 20 years. His struggles are tragic making us really root for him to have a great comeback - to get back up again like he always does.
But no matter, I always find a way to come back.
The other characters are handled pretty well too, especially Gwen. We see her get closer with Miles and feel her guilt in being unable to save her own Peter.
The animation is gorgeous.
It's villians are good, especially Kingpin, Prowler and another villian that I won't name. Kingpin is suprisingly brutal for a PG movie.
The music from both the soundtrack and score is great giving off a modern, upbeat feeling to this coming of age story.
Into the Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2.
