This is one of the best things I’ve watched in awhile. It’s fucking bonkers and over the top, yet extremely moving. How it goes from a quirky comedy about a kid taking up skirt panty photos to gain the approval of his priest father’s approval (not explaining, just watch the damn movie) to this sweeping Wagnerian epic while still hanging together as a cohesive film is fucking impressive. And yeah, sure, thematically you can say it’s trite, except for the fact that it does what so few movies dealing with the same themes are able to do: be intensely fucking moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, this is what PTA tried and failed to do with Magnolia, and if you don’t like this movie I’m never going to be able to see you as a human being
