Is this the best Nolan? Although it’s not my favourite I think it’s definitely the most well rounded and perhaps the most important film he’s ever made.
It’s got it all, fantastic performances, insane visuals, an amazing score, the sound design, the story telling, the majority of the pacing is near perfection. The way the tension is created despite us knowing the outcome is insane.
The main negative I have is that the pacing across the second quarter really slows things down and makes the film feel much longer. Other than that the film flies by. I’ve seen complaints saying the last hour isn’t necessary and is almost pointless/boring, as if the film isn’t called Oppenheimer but called The Atomic Bomb…
The final reveal of what Oppy and Einstein actually conversed is such a perfect final note and really makes you think and feel about what you’ve just watched.
Every character’s importance is highlighted by having every single goddam one of them being played by a recognisable actor who put everything into their performances, especially Cillian and Downey but on rewatch Blunt also blew me away too.
I’m so glad I rewatched this in IMAX, it’s a film made for the big screen and I hope I get to watch it again in the cinema in a few years time. This is better on rewatch and I hope it’ll get better on every rewatch.
