The nice guys

The introduction of the good guy begins with a car rushing into a stranger's home and a young boy there seeing the death of the female who was standing there naked. When we first meet our two main protagonists, they appear to be two detectives, but they are actually one hitman and one private investigator. Jackson Healy and Holland March cross paths as they both investigate the mysterious death of a woman named Amelia, and when they both come out empty-handed, they decide to put their feelings aside and work together on the investigation.

This film simply follows the tried-and-true template for comedies, including buddy cop and investigative films, which almost never go wrong. This movie follows the same format and is incredibly humorous and entertaining. Ryan Gosling and Russelle Crowe both give great performances as March and Healy, and they both excel in this movie, but Ryan Gosling stands out because it seems like he's playing multiple characters at the same time, which makes it a lot more hilarious, and his girly screen is fantastic.

From the beginning of the movie, I knew Holly, the daughter of March, wasn't going to be that appealing, but her frank and honest demeanour makes her a lot of fun to watch. Holly is one of those characters who won't leave the protagonists alone and is a pest. For instance, the scene in which she attends the large party with all of these pornographic actresses and converses with them while viewing their films is different, and the way she drives her dad is just super funny.

I am aware that this movie is supposed to take place in the 1970s, but in more detail, something interesting I noticed—and others may have spotted too—is that the Jaws 2 movie AD expressly states that this film takes place in 1978.

There are several hilarious situations in the whole movie, but my personal favourite and the funniest one is when the characters are at the airport apartment and witness John Boy brutally killing security guards as they ascend the elevator. They instantly descend into silence.

The main focus and objective of the movie—to capture Amelia or keep her safe—were quickly switched when she was killed by John Boy. I had assumed she would stay in the film and be dragged out until the very end. I was startled when she was killed so quickly, and their research soon turned to surviving and battling the tainted legal systems. They fight the legal system for nothing because the people involved were led off the leash and set free, which would be a fantastic setup for a sequel, which I wish the film had.

Overall, The Nice Guys is a relatively straightforward comedy movie with a great ensemble, including Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, that gives us amusing and funny situations over the course of the movie's two hours, which are used well to fill out the narrative.
