Fml. This movie is such a roller coaster I love it sm.
If anything this movie feels like Eggers just experimenting with how insane he’s willing to go with his movies and I utterly love his approach to this.
Apart from the subtle hints that the island is some kind of ‘purgatory’ I don’t think you’re meant to read too much in to it, you’re meant to be experiencing the events as the two characters are and if you do that it makes for one of the most bizarre and fascinating adventures a film can take you on.
I do believe this movie is a masterpiece, truly. However, personally I don’t consider it a horror movie. I don’t really know what kind of movie to class this as. It really is in a genre of its own.
After watching the witch and lighthouse back to back to do I’m so impressed by Eggers and I love his approach to movie making, I can’t wait to see him upcoming projects. Hopefully I’ll actually get to experience the next one in cinemas.
