The third watch has solidified this to be in my opinion not just Nolan’s magnum opus by far, but an all-time great. A story as beautiful as it is horrifying, put to screen in a way I can only describe as perfection and what is incredibly difficult to fully describe in one review. Göransson’s soundtracks in Oppenheimer are just some of his very best work and enhance the experience wherever they’re used, the acting is phenomenal throughout, definitely not putting to waste the talented cast, and what else can be said about the incredible, expansive cinematography. But what most impresses me about this masterpiece is simply the pacing - apart from some big scenes at certain points, the film is constantly restless and even extreme, in what almost seems to mirror the mind of Oppenheimer himself. In Nolan’s words, “it is an intense experience because it’s an intense story” and that just sums it up perfectly.
