I really thought Maika would have made a huge splash coming off It Follows, so to see her front and centre in a well reviewed spooky serial killer movie gives me hope that this can catapult her into more projects 🤞
The first half of this movie is generally fantastic, the creepy aesthetic and the boots to the ground investigation work had all the right ingredients for another crime classic, akin to Zodiac or Se7en, as it was going I was getting creeped out by every scene, saying to myself "we haven't had a really good serial killer movie like this in years"
Around half way the movie drops from almost a 5/5 to a 4/5. Without any spoilers it went in a different direction than I expected, while still really solid it couldn't keep up the initial momentum it set us up with.
I think Longlegs was a great, creepy time at the cinema but once some time passes it won't be in the same conversations as some of the all time great crime/investigation movies.
Extra points for the music, opening credits and title cards. It got all those right ✅️
