Well of course I am in awe, Chazelle is a genius and Whiplash goes to show but to make two Oscar worthy films. Mind blown.
The performances are incredible and it just goes to show how versatile they both are given that the most typecast genre for both has been comedy. I for one didn’t need the appearance from John Legend but I guess there’s nobody legitimate left in the Jazz realm to fit the boot.
It made me happy to be alive and then contemplative that all things cease, and although that in itself is a beginning I would be lost without my passions.
Stylistically it’s amazing, it borders on a classic musical but there’s parts that show just how modern it is. The long takes are totally immersive and the colours have brought an otherwise overhyped Los Angeles to life in the most charming way. The speakeasy bar at the end is a dream. Not a moment of this is overlooked or underdeveloped.
Gives me an existential crisis every time I watch.
