This was actually … quite good. It was nice to finally watch a good film from M. Night Shymalan again without burying my head in my hands out of disappointment.
Of course Trap was not without its flaws. The typical Shyamalan flaws were still present: the plot started great and suspenseful but then went into a different and less fleshed-out direction that completely changed the vibes; the characters went from realistically to cartoonishly written; and most importantly the screenplay once again failed to deliver the central message (at least for me).
However, I still think this is one of Shyamalan‘s better written films since Split. The premise and the main character were interesting. Josh Hartnett did the authenticity of his character justice and was just great to watch.
I’m getting the feeling Shymalan starts to find his path again. I will definitely look forward to his future works. He still needs to hire a writer.
