This is definitely an upgrade. I didn’t expect this film to be any good since the first entry wasn’t a huge thrill, either.
Smile 2 did something to me that most horror films weren’t able to do to me in recent years. It scared me. And I don’t get easily scared by horror films anymore. And I think this can be especially attributed to the gore that found its place here. I’m serious, this film is brutal as fuck!
Sure, the film still relied heavily on jumpscares and unnecessarily stretched scenes, but it improved so much on the cinematography and editing level that I would give the opening sequence alone a star for its masterful long take.
If you enjoyed the first part, you will most definitely have a great time with the second part. Just beware of the fact that it’s brutal as fuck.
