Upon this second viewing of the film I was just as impressed as I was my first watch, this time in an AMC prime cinema. I usually don't give into gimmicks by theaters but the sound was just so incredible. The movie exceeded all expectations and hearkened back to the insanity of films like death race 2000 and of course the original mad max trilogy. Charlize Theron as the alpha female Imperator Furiosa is a complete scene stealer!
A gasp of fresh hair for the action film genre. She never plays second fiddle to anyone in the film and has such a great bravado about her. Definitely my favorite mad max supporting character since Hugh Keays- Byrnes' Toecutter from the original film. It was also a great choice to recast Byrnes but this time as the disgustingly awesome Immortan Joe. The set pieces and art direction are astounding. The intricacies of the citadels inner workings, the design of the war rigs, the war boys, various factions, and costume design meld together to form an amalgamation culminating in a fascinating dystopic world. That feels lived in and well developed. Tom Hardy is also great as Max. This time though he seems a little more vulnerable and haunted by his inner demons. The score by dutch producer Junkie XL is also great. Although George Miller is 70 he still retains his incredible ability to develop blood pumping action sequences and create a glorious vision out of sand and blood.
