I really liked this a lot. I thought Maika Monroe was absolutely stellar. The camera work throughout is so inspired and really adds to the nauseating tone throughout.
My one major gripe is that i just don’t think there is enough character development, and i think it takes waaaay too long for us to really get a sense of who Lee Harker is, and once the film starts caring about character, it seems to be too late. I do think the world building, just how bleak everything feels and sounds makes up for some of the other faults and messiness.
Deeply sinister from the jump. Both a quiet and palpitating horror, taking on different ways of terrifying at different points. I really appreciated that. Nic Cage is so batshit omg. Can’t wait to watch again!
