I never talked about Paul Walker's performance in the other F&F movies out of respect for his memory, and to his credit, he got better as the movies got better.
That being said, Tokyo Drift was the first of the franchise (and so far as it seems, only) to not use any of the lead actors from the first two. Instead, we are given an attempt at rehashing what made the first one popular: hot chicks, fast cars, yada yada. Unlike the first one, which I will admit works as a guilty pleasure to an extent, this fails to capture that same spirit. Not only because it's repeating itself but also because the lead character is so unlikable. None of these new characters register with us on an emotional level, or even any level. Mostly because Paul Walker had a charm to him that I went "Well, okay, he's not good but he's likable as a guy, I guess." I can't say that about anybody here. In between the car stuff, we have to listen to these guys and hope to form a connection. We don't have any. I think the filmmakers knew that too, because we never revisited any of these characters again. We're better for it.
