The best film about aging since Wild Strawberries, or perhaps even Make Way for Tomorrow. Deeply, deeply sad in a way few films (or, of course, filmmakers) have the courage for. Scorsese, Zaillian, and especially De Niro clearly and unabashedly demonstrate that courage, and I thank them for it.
I suppose I expected Jimmy Hoffa to do the Dunkaccino rap so I wasn’t shocked when it happened, but it was such a pleasant surprise when Bobby Kennedy joined in. A joyful yet somehow still harrowing scene. Bravo!
