It is probably true that wisdom comes with age, at least that is true in this scenario.
Well, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the Mad Max trilogy. In my opinion, the three films have simply not aged quite as well for today's conditions, which of course is partly due to the low budget. Nevertheless, the three films are entertaining and undoubtedly also have a certain cult status. In addition, of course, these films must benefit from one more thing, namely the fact that Fury Road would probably never have existed without these films. But luckily there were the movies and luckily there is Fury Road.
Well, anyway, I saw Fury Road before the trilogy and actually had no prior knowledge of this dystopian world, which is actually not necessary. However, I didn't really feel like the movie either, because I basically can't do much with such films. But I was definitely taught something else. Because already with the first scene, with the first second, the pace increases more and more, the incredible tension is always present, the dirty and dystopian world is always within reach and so you have practically no time to take a deep breath during this film.
So with all these great aspects, it is even difficult to start with one, but the beginning is probably quite suitable for the beginning. When Max speaks into the voice over with a depressed and rough voice and then this perfect first picture appears, you can't help but be enthusiastic about it, or can you? Then the first chase in this dry, gloomy and dirty world begins, which already gives a good view of the next two hours. It continues mercilessly and becomes more exciting with every minute. Until Max suddenly stands in front of the abyss and you as a spectator are already so immersed in this world that you can literally feel the abyss. But only then will the title be displayed, which shows that this was only the beginning. These first few minutes are already so impressive and intense that the rest of the film can hardly top it, but spoiler warning... it can.
Well, the whole movie is basically like these first few minutes. Intense, merciless, impressive and simply breathtaking. In the genre of dystopia action film but also in general in the action genre, this film has simply set new standards.
But not only because of the enormous tension, this film is so intense, but also by the impressive world that was built up here. You can literally see how much George Miller has developed. In the first part of the Mad Max series, my biggest problem was that it just didn't feel like a dystopian world, because everything seemed quite cheap. Fortunately, in the second part, this problem was solved and explained that civilization has now collapsed and the search for energy in the form of fuel has become the purpose of life. That's why the second part already seemed much dystopian and has already paved the way for Fury Road. In the third part, people have again begun to build a civilization that, of course, looks very different from the way we know it according to the circumstances, to put it mildly. Well, and then we come to Fury Road, where this dystopian world has been completely expanded. It took quite a long time, but the world George Miller created over the course of the films is really impressive. This whole world seems so merciless and so far from reality that I thought in the meantime where such ideas came from.
Of course, you also have to praise all those responsible for costumes, make-up pictures and the like. Because you have never really seen all this before and is just as impressive as the rest of the film.
What is just as impressive, yes, I have used this word quite often, but it hits the film quite good, well, whatever is impressive is the staging and the entire image design. I don't quite know how to put these fascinating pictures into words. But basically you can take a screenshot in practically every scene and it just looks perfect so that you could hang the picture on the wall. There is also a Black and Chrome edition, but honestly I don't know why you should look at such beautiful pictures with such beautiful colors in black and white. Well, but anyway, the pictures created are just... yes, exactly impressive.
But of course it wasn't that with the hymns of praise, because of course you shouldn't leave the actors unmentioned and I really have absolutely nothing wrong with the cast. Starting with the protagonist and no, I don't mean Max, but Furiosa who, in my opinion, should be described much more as a protagonist. In any case, she is really fantastically embodied by Charlize Theron. Because of me, she can undoubtedly join the great action heroes such as Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor. I am already looking forward to the Furiosa film, even if Charlize Theron will not embody the eponymous character there. But Tom Hardy should of course not be forgotten, because he also plays the eponymous character absolutely outstandingly. He embodies the wordless and dry hero at least as well as Mel Gibson once did. But of course, it doesn't stop with these two actors yet. Because there is, for example, Nicholas Hoult, who is also simply outstanding and reveals a completely unusual side of himself. In addition, Immortan Joe is definitely worth mentioning. Because Hugh Kaeys-Byrne, who returns here after the first part of the Mad Max series, is also completely convincing and simply a disgusting and cruel person. But Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley or Riley Keough are also fantastic in their rather smaller roles.
Well, overall, I can hardly say anything negative about this film. But all the more good, because this film is simply impressive, breathtaking, beautiful at the same time merciless, brutal, gloomy and overall just an incomparable action masterpiece that is unparalleled and will probably remain in remembered for a long time.
