“Don't regret. Remember.”

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a powerful work of art that lives up to the acclaim it’s received.

After finishing the film, I was lost for words. Truly speechless. The film isn’t revolutionary plot wise, but the story is told so beautifully. It builds the connection between the two perfectly. They were both acted perfectly by Adèle Haenel and Noémie Merlant; they were immensely powerful to watch and written excellently. The dialogue was poetically written, boosting many powerful scenes. There were so many fluid conversations with fantastic lines that made it impossible to stop paying attention. 

The most widely regarded feature in this film is the cinematography, and it does not disappoint at all. It’s phenomenal. Each shot is unbelievably beautiful, making looking away from the film feel like a sin. The camera truly prioritises the most important thing and captures them in the most spellbinding way.
The use of lighting is really effective, with the dimly lit rooms filled only by candles or moon light and the contrasting light of the island and the sharp, bold colours of nature. 

I want to write more about this film but I’ll have to watch it again because I’m truly lost for words here. If you haven’t watched it, watch it.
