Reason to watch: Moody and mature thriller / court room drama that succesfully uses Ford against type and expectations as a flawed character (his hair cut was notoriously mocked for making him look weaker, less likable and less heroic than usual, but that’s excactly the point). Ford, Dennehy, Bedelia, Scacchi, Winfield, Spencer, Whitford are all good in a strong cast, with Raul Julia the stand out, delivering an underrated performance that’s subtle and powerful. Atmospheric cinematography by the great Gordon Willis and tremendous score by John Williams. Master of the brainy thriller, Alan J. Pakula, steers this ship expertly, delivering a mix of Hitchcockian man accused of crime and the political intrigue and paranoia he could do in his sleep. Sexual, intellectual, not without controversy and with a character gallery of precious few innocents.
