Spielberg, at a point in his life where he could make anything at all, decided to give us his most personal and vulnerable movie ever. As Spielberg gets older, he has become a film maker who doesn't so much want to thrill us anymore, except now he wants to invite us to his most intimate films and stories, and "The Fablemans" is the ultimate intimate film based on his up bringing and love for films. The story is a character piece that looks at the beauty of the discovery of filmmaking, but also a real look at the heartbreak of family and self discovery.
