20 years after his glory days, Shane Black made his purest work: Sleazy, heartfelt, violent, hilarious, polemical, with a couple of tough guys who can’t stand each other, a precocious child, and a couple of Christmas lights. The fact that there are four Lethal Weapons and only one Nice Guys is pretty solid evidence of our society’s decline.
We all need to quote this movie more. Here, I’ll start: “It's fucking over man, that's what my daughter's got to deal with. The Chets of the world.”
