This is like Joker (2019) meets Donnie Darko (2001) and then meets an extremely intricately plotted gay porno. Despite that electrifying introduction this is...a very bad movie. There's a lot of stuff triggering and stupid stuff to get through to eventually reach a conclusion that I just didn't give a fuck about. Like, I didn't want to watch Zach Villa cut himself while his penis was out, and after I did...I didn't get anything out of the experience.
It does have a good central performance from Villa and has some pretty interesting (that's the best way to put it) editing choices. This and Good Mourning (2022) is not a great start for Villa. He has a bright future in the industry (as a performer), and is really good in everything I've seen him in, but everything I've seen him has been horrendous.
As well, though weird, and overly cut, the editing in the "crazy moments" was pretty alright. Like, I liked the reflection effect and it gave a very dizzying feeling to everything. All of these little moments were like quick and wild and, though sometimes holding some material I didn't feel like seeing (refer back to the suicide penis blood) it was pretty cooky and I liked it.
Overall, I wouldn't give Hypochondriac (2022) the time of day. Despite what you may think...this is only barely a movie about some dude freaking out and Googling symptoms.
