Most underrated gem in Tim Burton’s filmography and one of his best works at the same time.
Despite not being a major box office hit, it is highly regarded by critics and cinephiles for several reasons.
It’s the story of Ed Wood, who is often labeled as one of the "worst" filmmakers of all time, primarily due to the notoriously poor quality of his films.
But this biopic deviates from the traditional approach of glorifying its subject.
Rather than focusing on Wood's achievements or framing him as a misunderstood genius, the film presents a more nuanced and affectionate look at his life, highlighting his flaws and failures with a sense of empathy and humor.
The film portrays him as a passionate and determined individual who, despite the lack of success and the poor quality of his films, continued to pursue his dreams.
The movie stands out also for the amazing cast and their interpretations. Depp’s portrayal of Wood is both charismatic and heartfelt, showcasing his ability to bring depth and charm to a character who might otherwise seem merely eccentric.
