You don’t watch a sequel like this— one so long after the original, one born into this blighted era—with the expectation or even hope of it actually being good. Instead you just hope to come out of it with your enjoyment of the original intact. All that the 2020’s sequelboot has to do is get from titles to credits without making you hate yourself for having cared.
It’s not a high bar and yet apparently very difficult to hit.
But this… this isn’t too bad! It’s funny! It plays the hits! The story just about works and heck I like it. And the CGI is of a high quality and graciously steps aside to make room for a lot of great puppets, costumes and practical makeup.
