Haven't stopped thinking about this since last night. I can comfortably say this is my personal favorite Nolan film now, he's made the most gripping biopic I've seen.
The scene in the gym after the bombs were dropped was harrowing. Oppenheimer goes from being elated at this groundbreaking scientific achievement, to baring witness to how the world is going to viciously use his science as a dominating weapon of war. But I don't have sympathy for the man. He knew what the fuck this was, and his blind arrogance did nothing to get in the way of the atomic bomb becoming a reality. Oppenheimer was a complicated man, but by no means a martyr.
I loved everything about this. The storytelling, the creative choices to show his anxieties, the pin-drop SILENCE as the bomb went off, the security clearance hearing, Rami Malek being the goddamn man, Benny Safdie's portrayal of the father of hydrogen bomb. Phenomenal film, required to be seen in a theater.
