Booksmart is just so fucking fun. Out of all the coming of age movies I’ve seen, this feels the most human and relatable. The film has some cliche moments for sure, but still manages to portray a realistic friendship and high school experience. Molly and Amy’s friendship (as well as the accompanying performances) is obviously the heart of the film, but it’s cinematography and costuming deserve high praise as well.
It’s weird seeing a movie that feels like it was made for me. After a lifetime of media clearly created for straight male audiences, Booksmart is a much welcomed breath of fresh air.
