Charlie Benjamin Brown’s review published on Letterboxd:
“We need to find our own inspiration, Kiki. Sometimes it’s not easy.”
Studio Ghibli ranked This is proof that it’s ok for films to be simple. Kiki’s Delivery Service is, if nothing else, just a wholesome ass film.
Kiki is easily one of the most likeable and surprisingly relatable characters I’ve seen from a Gihbli film. When she slipped on that god damn leaf while running, I felt that. Plus, unsurprisingly, the animation is utterly gorgeous throughout. The films use of blues and greens is just plain masterful.
I certainly wouldn’t say this is a perfect film, simply because of how low key and simple it is but I really do just appreciate it all the more for that. If nothing else, Kiki’s Delivery Service is a stunning, fun, and incredibly wholesome anime and I cannot recommend it enough.
