The Iron Claw of 2024 for me. In that it comes in at like the last day of the year to become one of my favorite films of the entire year. I adored everything about this.
Actually my first Clint Eastwood film. I own a bunch of them but just haven't gotten to his films yet. I will definitely be fixing that soon because this was absolutely incredible. I had no idea how it was gonna end and it left me with such conflicted emotions on the story that I really haven't felt from any other film all year. I can't think of any other film from 2024 that left me questioning morals and thinking of my own opinions on a main character as much as Juror #2 did. I've seen a complaint that it's a bit silly how little evidence the court has against the boyfriend on trial, yet I think that's intentional. It seems the point is to show how personal bias is present from the beginning with a jury and all of the court is just theatrics. The closing arguments alone would be seen as outrageous yet I'm sure arguments like that have swayed people in the past. Definitely seems like a critique of the American justice system itself (very based might i add). Nicolas Hoults best performance for me i think. I adored him in this film. Same for Toni Collette who is just so good at picking roles. There is like 2 scenes that felt way too much like 12 Angry Men (though in between it's hard not to have ties to that) but legit my only complaint. This & The Substance are both so close to a 5/5 for me that on rewatch they could both go up to it. Incredible film and a great showcase on why courtroom dramas are hands down one of my favorite genres now
