High octane explosive action thriller from John Woo that blends overwrought dramatics with a hailstorm of bullets. The plot focuses on a hitman with a heart of gold who decides to help a young woman he accidently blinded while carrying out a hit. The plot and characters are well done, but it's the action scenes that really lift the whole thing. The film just oozes cool and is extremely fast paced. The stunts are frequent, violent and bloody. There's some absolutely great set pieces here and all John Woo's signature stylings appear too - including slow motion, doves etc. The dynamic between the two central characters - the aforemtioned hitman and a police detective - gives the film an extra level in the second half. It all boils down to an absolute showstopper of an ending (and it really had to be given everything that came before it!) The Killer delivers everything it promises and more - one of John Woo's most famous films for a reason!
