Despite some minor issues, I believe this movie deserves the rank of "perfection" and should stand alongside the greatest movies of all time, as it is one with so much significance in our world, as well as a masterful display of talent and creative ideas.
It is a truly grand and out-of-this-world tale, an old one, but built with impressive, groundbreaking animation, breathtaking music and acting, and of course, good writing. You can retell Hamlet, but you will never need to for The Lion King.
Despite this movie definitely feeling like a Disney movie from the 90s, and some minor tonal issues (especially with Timone and Pumbaa,) neither of these things take away just how amazed I was the whole way through. I did also find the movie actually funny, so at least its attempts at humor didn't fall short.
I would love to own this movie and watch the director's commentary. I want to know more about how this masterpiece was made. Also, more movies to own is awesome.
