Back in the 1970s, people didn't have much to watch in terms of horror films, the only ones available to watch being The Exorcist and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. So when HALLOWEEN was unleashed onto the big screen in 1978, people were screaming to no end.
Known back then as one of the scariest films of all time, it still is one of the scariest films of all time to this day. Its legacy is brought down in timeless tradition from generation to generation. I'm glad this movie exists.
Jamie Lee Curtis plays Laurie Strode incredibly well, trying her best to convey those feelings of horror she has to when she discovers her friends' dead bodies. Donald Pleasance is also fantastic as Dr. Samuel Loomis. The same can be said for the rest of the cast, even for the kids.
I can't exactly talk about the special effects because, well, there aren't any. There's no blood to be seen here. It's funny, because John Carpenter always talks about how people were so disgusted by the film saying it was so graphic and disturbing, when it's the exact opposite. I think that if the film were to be released today, it could easily be rated PG-13.
The soundtrack is iconic. From the film's opening moments to the last name in the credits, the soundtrack grabs you and pulls you to the edge of your seat. The music in this film is what makes Halloween, Halloween.
This film is a huge staple in the horror genre, and even film in general. The film launched the career of Jamie Lee Curtis, but also landed John Carpenter on the map.
