9yrold and I are playing chess, ‘watching’ the movie (I’m watching much more than she is/ apparently she’s never even heard of this movie). We’re almost through the whole thing and she stops and says “so why is this a Christmas movie?” Almost immediately comes the scene where George comes back to, on the bridge, and literally starts yelling ‘Merry Christmas’ at Bert and anyone else. She thinks the yelling is hilarious. Now we’re no longer playing and just watching the final scene together, she says “is this the same movie with the boy who wants a million dollars and says “HOT DOG!”, then it happens, Zuzu says, “every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings. Immediate recognition.
The point is that I usually don’t pressure my kids into watching the things I like. They are their own people and like their own stuff. But sometimes a movie is so good that it pulls their attention and they can’t help but watch. It’s a Wonderful Life is one of those films.
