Billy Wilder might just be the greatest screenwriter of all time.
What a film man. What a finale of fucking emotions.
Jack Lemmon is the tragic driving force of a story that twists and turns and stabs you’re heart in all the right ways. A career defining performance and one that I will never forget.
All the components that transform this film into an unforgettable classic are so ahead of their time. The camera movements, Lemmon’s unique comedic mannerisms, the blocking, the satirical chides in the script. All of it. So fresh, so purposeful, and so emotionally impactful for the viewer.
The Apartment is my most favorite recent watch and it’s just clear of Sunset Boulevard for me.
