“We are all Spider-Man,”
An apotheosis of the mediums of film, comics, and animation. Has more visual inventiveness in its moment-to-moment storytelling than most entire films do throughout their entire runtime. A vibrant, creative, funny, and resonant movie that justifies the decade-long oversaturation comic book films that could only dream of being this good that somehow miraculously allowed it to exist. Even though it’s more sad moments still remain poigniant, it’s emotional crescendos of inspiration and determination to get up no matter how many times you’re knocked down manage to feel authentic, somehow eliciting tears from me even after this many viewings.
Please, for the love of God, do not let this movie be a flash in the pan. If every superhero film was this ambitious, this true to heart, and this overwhelmingly outstanding on every artistic front, I’d be okay with the wave we’re still riding on with Marvel still dominating popular cinema. But, then again, it’s willingness to distinguish itself is what makes it such a lightning in a bottle experience.
Still deserves every inch of praise it’s been given. And as I sit here, at one of the lower points in my life, a year forward from when I last viewed it, it still makes me want to try. To not give up. I don’t want to stay down. I want to fight. This movie is why silly little things like comic books and superheroes mean so much to people, because they can tell you to keep going when the entire world feels like it wants you to stop.
