Effortless, economical sci-fi, building its broader rules and expectations within the realm of a Western future gangster thriller while laying tragic, elegant side stories inside the colder, detached cracks. Starts out as an admittedly astonishing exercise in world-building but concludes with a wisp of inevitability carried by expansive staging and hallowed climatic moments. Fucking incredible. Year 30; still gonna be me watching this movie slack-jawed.
