sobbing in the cinema at 10am surrounded by kids is exactly how i wanted to start off my weekend. this was a great time.
lupita did such an incredible job voice acting here! oftentimes in animation, actors rely on over-expressing themselves with their voice and it comes across as inauthentic. the script is so great in this that the subtlety in her performance is super effective and brings a warmth to roz that might not have been achieved otherwise. the animation is unreal, especially in those last 15 or so minutes! the colours! the music! the emotion! wowee!
the found family trope compiled of underdogs and outcasts is definitely nothing new here, but when there’s this much heart in it - it’s gonna work every time.
