imma be fr, i watched this in SD quality on some website because i couldn’t bear waiting like a month and possibly getting it spoiled.
‘longlegs’ is an interesting one. i feel like everyone went into this expecting something in particular based on the amazing fucking advertisement. i definitely had my own expectations. from the trailer, i interpreted a cryptic, ambiguous, occult-driven film with weird, abstract visuals and a sense of unease.
the film doesn’t quite reach that for me, but what it does stand as is a good, satanic-twist on the crime detective genre, with a good maika monroe and maybe the most awesome nic-cage-esque performance to date from the master himself.
it’s a slow, quiet, sometimes uneasy film with an interesting mystery and visual atmosphere at the core, but from my own personal hype, by the time the end credits rolled i was expecting just a little bit more. not unsatisfactory, but not the greatest horror of the decade. i might rewatch this when it comes to streaming.
