Colin Twisselmann’s review published on Letterboxd:
"What a lovely day".
Yeah this is an action movie alright! It's outrageous, grisly, and more than bit weird but all of this is in its favor. It makes the world seem more wild, more lived in with people who have experienced this wasteland for a long long time. And just a little hope would be nice.
It has fantastic colors, a pulsing score, incredible stunts, and it has confident directing from George Miller. Lots of great closeups and explosions. That guitar playing dude, why not? It's very very well paced, usually there's a middle part of this type of movie that drags but I didn't notice.
The women and children are shown as people that represent the future of the world and an optimism and hope that the wasteland can be saved. There's almost an innocence and pure beauty contrasted with the harshness of characters like Joe and Max.
Tom Hardy is fantastic in this even though he just grunts a lot. His past is not really explained but it makes him more interesting and his mission a bit more personal as we see as this thing plays out. He's an absolute unit and his arc is well handled. He learns to be human and remember his name.
Like I mentioned it's meticulously colored and shot and the vehicle oh man, they're awesome. Really this is quite unbelievable. It's one that pulls you into the madness and enthralls you for two hours that fly by quickly.
A must watch for action fans and for your "cinema" enjoyers. It truly is able to blend the action people love as well as elements that those film nerds can appreciate.
