This is a tough one, because it’s very self serious. The action is John Woo at full steam, yet it lacks the comedy of his earlier output. Despite mining the holiday theme for all it’s worth, it is not light at all. The trauma and grief at the centre of the film is unfortunately handled very predictably. The film really fizzles out in the final 20 mins.
I could write a bit about how the lack of dialogue both benefits and detracts from the film, but I doubt I’ll even remember it a few weeks from now.
