Giving this an extra star to make up for the jealousy I felt towards Odessa Young. It’s hard to watch someone else live out your dreams. For instance, being a maid to Olivia Colman and getting rawed on a Sunday by Josh O’Connor.
What would have been a very typical period piece (good performances and a well adapted screenplay) are saved by its very original direction, lack of digression in raunchier scenes, non linear narrative and unique visuals.
A side on Olivia Colman: myself and the audience I saw this with were so starved for a single word from her that when she finally makes a dry remark after a few scenes of silence, everybody cracked up.
