Though rather uneven, François Ozon delivers a tense erotic thriller that plays out more as an aesthetically rich horror film. Sure the Cronenberg reference point is clear from the narrative alone, but stylistically, the off-kilter atmosphere of the film reminds me of his work when I haven’t even seen Dead Ringers yet.
Great performances all round, including a sexy and unhinged double performance by Jérémie Renier.
Despite being lost at some plot developments, its refreshing to see Ozon’s style in a less satricial, almost Hitchcockian romance.
Though I will say, to have seen this and Justine Triet’s Sibyl but not yet Dead Ringers or Vertigo should be a hanging offence.
