Very interesting, gripping and even suspenseful in certain vignettes, and unfortunately perplexing in others. 4 Days in France is ambitious in its scope and runtime, though its languid pace and unfolding nature frustrated me more than a similar film 2023’s The Delinquents, which worked as an unfolding fairytale within a story, rather than a series of isolated incidents.
Beautiful photography of the French countryside is rightly lingered on so many times. I just wish it was more profound, or even just less bizarre. The incidental quirkiness worked in some aspects, but overwhelmingly felt jarring compared to the cinéma vérité that director Jérôme Reybaud achieved in his less loud and more subtle chapters.
