"I believe it was Dostoevsky that said... "Later, fucker!" ~ Betelgeuse ~
A sequel some 35+ years later. And it's a pretty admirable overall. Kind of highs and lows, hits and misses.
Most of the "hits" are from the great cast of actors involved who all seem to be having fun with this silly sequel. Very enjoyable seeing them working within the Tim Burton offbeat film pallet of twisted whimsy.
Plus... Michael Keaton is still spot-on perfect as the title character. His performance as this character is both dynamic and hilarious.
Both Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe are delightful additions to the character list. Love watching both of them in their roles.
The misses include a very bad song choice for a huge set piece in Act Three, and some extraneous plotting involving too many characters (probably to appease some of the supporting starring actors involved).
Burton kind of goes a bit more violent and gory in this sequel than the lighter-toned original. Also the Jeffrey Jones subplot comes across a bit awkward and probably should have been just dropped altogether.
