outside of the couple huge songs, WICKED is a bit of a cultural blindspot for me. something that i understood the importance of more as an object of devotion to a lot of people i cared about rather than a personal revelation so i didn’t hold many expectations heading into it.
this movie was a total enigma to me because it’s so clearly undeniable in long stretches but also why does it look Like That?? The CGI is glaringly bad (the animals in particular) but i guess ultimately it doesn’t really matter because any time Cynthia Erivo starts singing you really feel it. She is amazing and with no shots to the original but this is my favorite version of Defying Gravity. Ariana is so funny in this movie, really makes you realize how talented she is at this and makes me hope she leans back into acting again. When she’s flopping around on the floor during Popular, it really got me.
Hate the munchkins, weird little hall monitor ass freaks. get a life.
a movie that i enjoyed but don’t know how to fairly give stars to, so i won’t
