Anchored by an impossibly confident lead, The Love Witch is one of the most meticulously crafted recreations of a specific style ever committed to film. There is nary a false note, with every single aspect of the production perfectly capturing a lost aesthetic from a largely forgotten era.
My only reservation is with the film's punishing runtime. I'm tempted to ignore my instincts on this, as the thought of losing any footage of Samantha Robinson's sultry performance borders on the tragic, but the picture really would benefit from a tighter edit. And while I appreciate the schmaltz (and the Wicker Man nod), I'd nevertheless recommend starting with that Renaissance fair bullshit.
